Our Seas: From Greatness to Crisis — and How We Can Turn the Tide
September 8 @ 16:30 - 18:00
Experience a talk and harbor tour in one. Jump aboard a unique journey through the Port of Copenhagen – past the sights, the stories and hear about the crisis and possible future of our ocean.
The seas surrounding Denmark, Europe and beyond were once extremely bountiful and rich in biodiversity. Today we’re facing a very different picture: Over the last generations, direct pressures from human activities combined with climate change have led to collapsing fish populations, increased pollution, loss of habitats and species and a general decline in marine biodiversity.
In this talk, Thomas Kirk Sørensen, will talk about the state of our sea, how it got to be so degraded and provide some solutions and hope for the future if we make the right decisions.
Along the way Thomas will share experiences, cases and anecdotes from his work as lead ocean specialist at WWF Denmark.
